Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. The City's landfill page lists no holiday closures. After heavy rain the City has closed the landfill to small vehicles and trailers (on October 7, 2024 only pickup trucks were accommodated), so call ahead in wet weather.
What it takes
Accepted
- Household trash
- Tires
The City's landfill page is undated, gives no effective date for its rates and still refers to "BFI" accounts. A local news report from October 2025 said the Brownsville landfill raised municipal solid waste disposal fees by roughly 75 percent and its clean brush fee from $18 to $43 per ton, so the rates shown may be out of date: confirm with the City before going. The page also mentions a compost facility program and a scrap tire processing and storage facility. The phone listed is the City's general line (956-546-HELP); the landfill page gives no direct number, and the street address comes from the TCEQ permit list. Brush and bulky items are collected curbside on a zone schedule (call (956) 546-HELP for special pickups). One-day events: City B.R.I.G.H.T. neighborhood cleanups take grass clippings, brush, tree limbs, furniture, mattresses, large appliances and tires (no rims) at a designated dumpster site (for example September 18, 2026 at West Brownsville Little League Park), but not paint, oil, batteries, car parts, construction materials or household trash; Cameron County Public Works held a household-waste Trash Bash at precinct sites May 18-23, 2026. The City's recycling page sends electronics to RDA Technologies, 468 Regal Rd., Unit 124. No permanent household hazardous waste drop-off was found in Cameron County.
Who can use it
The City's page lists waste charges for loads from inside and outside the city limits. It says disposal is at no charge for "BFI" clients paying for collection services through P.U.B., who must present their P.U.B. statement of charges to verify the account.
